Trend Alert: The Sock Boot

on

I’m OBSESSED with SOCK BOOTS.

They’ve been a thing since at least Spring 2017 (cue the  Balenciaga Knife Boots hitting the SS17 runway clip) and luckily for me, the trend is still going strong.

What are they you ask?  Well, exactly what they sound like (I know, we all wish the trend sounded as sexy as they look) – boots that you pull on like socks or leggings.

And, why are they so popular you ask?  Their wearability – comfortable and all season.  That’s right – you’ll be sporting these babies right into summer with your favorite pair of denim cut-offs or floral mini.

From velvet to patent leather to stretch jersey, sock boots come in endless variations, but the key is to be sure your boots stand out – whether in a dynamic color, interesting print or unique fabric.  For my first pair last Spring, I went RED because there’s simply no reason to do a trend lightly.

For my last day of shows during NYFW, I was totally over fussy outfits (drapes and belts and off the shoulder madness) and my feet were begging for a break (a girl can only wear  4+ inches for so many days in a row), so I put together a look that was all comfort without compromising on style.  To create the look, I paired a knit metallic top (conservative enough for the office, but shiny enough for a kira kira vid) with a black pleated tulle midi skirt (totally ballerina-like with the cutest sporty logo waistband – unfortunately not visible here) and the most luxurious black wraparound wool coat with large faux fur collar (currently on super sale at PINKO, this coat is guaranteed to elevate and pull any outfit together).  I love pairing midi skirts with slightly oversized tops – great for hiding extra pounds while appearing totally high-fashion.  For accessories, I carried a silver metallic flap bag (to compliment the top), gold disc earrings (if you’re looking for unique, sophisticated, well-made gold costume jewelry, you must check out COS’s current collection) and Prada-cat eye sunglasses.  Finally, to keep the outfit from becoming too conventional and to add a little color, I wore red sock booties.
