Trend Alert: Short Suit

The power suit trend has a new silhouette – the short suit.

Power suiting has been a trend season after season, but this Spring/Summer, we started seeing a fresh take on the trend – suits with shorts. The concept isn’t new and it should come as no surprise in light of the current resurgence of all things 80’s, but whether you go the vintage route or with something contemporary, there are so many interesting ways to style a suit with shorts.

For one of my busiest days during fashion week, I wanted to put together an outfit that was fashion-conscious, sophisticated and polished, but comfortable enough to accommodate an intense schedule of back-to-back shows and events. Luckily, partnering with Italian fashion brand PINKO, one of my favorite pulls this season was a tuxedo inspired, black jacquard short suit. What I love most about this particular set is it’s unique way of melding formal and informal. The double-breasted blazer with classic shawl collar is an interesting juxtaposition to the high-waisted trouser shorts. For a truly 80’s inspired look, I wore an ivory silk camisole, oversized black squared cat-eye sunglasses and large gold button earrings. Then, I paired it with another major trend item, bright white dad sneakers. Finally, I carried my mini prada top handle satchel that I wore with its interchangeable striped bag stripe to inject a little color and athleisure vibes.
