Move over florals, there’s a new Summer motif in town. Bring on the bold fruit prints!
Now don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t get through Spring/Summer without a healthy does of florals, but who doesn’t love a fresh new trend to try. So for all of you suffering from a case of floral fatigue, you’ll be thrilled to know that bold fruit prints are making their way to absolutely everything – from sweet cherry printed tops to pineapple adorned bottoms to lemon embellished dresses – fruit is a la mode. Yes, for all of you longstanding fashion enthusiasts, I know Dolce & Gabbana has been doing fruit prints right for years, but with all trends, these looks are finally accessible to the masses and I’m not mad about it.
So, on my recent girls trip to gorgeous Savannah, GA, for a proper southern fine dining experience, I wore a an all-over lemon printed dress with midriff cutout and tiered ruffle skirt. To play up the summer flare, I carried a large round straw bag (definitely an it bag for summer) and wore white acrylic hoops earrings. For something a little unexpected, I layered gold relic style necklaces. Finally, to keep the look from getting too busy, I wore lucite block heel sandals.
Style Tip: It’s hard for something this cute to not look great, but here are some style tips to keep your look from going off the edge to tacktown. The rest of your look should be simple – i.e. this is not the moment for over embellishment. Try pairing your bold new print with something tailored, like a great pair of solid trousers or for something more playful, a pair of high-waisted denim shorts. And come fall, try your printed item with a blazer or pair of skinnies.
