The Plaid Trench

on

A true fashion girl never lets a little rain dampen her style…and, I can’t think of a better way to combat the rainy day style blues than with a killer trench coat that will keep you dry while appearing effortlessly tailored.

My go-to is of course a classic Burberry trench (a timeless staple for every wardrobe), but I was thrilled when plaid/tartan trenches were all over the Fall runways.  I know, you’re worried that a plaid trench won’t get much wear, but I promise it’s a lot more versatile than you think.  Wear the trench with competing plaid prints for a funky, almost grungey vibe, wear it with neutrals for a more sophisticated style,  or go rogue and try it with a floral print top or lace dress for a true off-the-runway look.

For my rainy shopping day with SDP, I decided to go for a more tailored/sophisticated look.  To ensure the trench would be the star of the outfit, I wore an all black outfit (it is NYC after all) – classic black knit turtleneck, black leather pants and the most incredible Sergio Rossi heeled black lace-up combat boots.  These gorgeous boots with gold grommets were on super sale at Saks during my leisure living days and I couldn’t leave the store without them.  And, with its rubber soles, they’re a perfect rainy weather compliment. To complete the look, I wore vintage Chanel quilted CC earrings, a sleek black backpack and black double bridge sunglasses.
