Did someone say sweater weather?
There’s a reason why the sweater dress makes a showing every Fall/Winter – its versatility. Dress it up or down, with sneaks or heels, the perfect sweater dress can be worn a million different ways. Luckily, right before the temps took a dive this Winter, I nabbed the perfect knee length black sweater dress from Ann Taylor (to replace one that had seen better days) and I haven’t stopped wearing and rewearing it since. For this post, I’m not talking about those sweater dresses in more trendy silhouettes, like the oversized mini sweater dress you’ve seen on your favorite streetstyle icon, but the perfect basic black sweater dress.
For a recent Sunday out and about, I decided to dress up my basic black knee length sweater dress with the help of a statement thick black velvet belt with large round rhinestone buckle and a brown suede duster coat. To create two looks, I wore the belt on the dress for a a chic indoor look and over the coat for a glam outdoor look. To complete the outfit, I paired the dress with black over the knee suede boots, a classic black felt fedora, vintage Fendi monogram bag, black cat eye sunglasses and fringe rhinestone earrings (because what gal doesn’t want a little more glam).
Fendi monogram brings all the tones together. Nothing more classic than all black. Try wearing a statement belt over a basic sweater dress. Mixing textures like velvet, suede and knit create visual interest. Brown suede duster exudes luxe western vibes. Brown suede duster can be worn with or without the belt to create a wholly different look. Rhinestone waterfall earrings are an unexpected, but interesting accessory to this simple black look. Belting the coat creates a sleek silhouette. Classic pieces come together to create something unique. Classic black fedora is another wardrobe staple. Love the rich tone of this suede duster. Keep your look sleek with a pair of sophisticated black cat eye sunglasses. Red lips against a black look are always a good idea. Rhinestone belt makes a statement.
Styled this way, the sweater dress is anything but basic.
