Wedding season is upon us and if you have as many invitations as I do this summer, you’re also thinking, “What am I going to wear to all of these events without breaking the bank?”
The beauty about summer is that you can get away with lighter fabrics and generally less expensive pieces as events tend to favor the outdoors and the overall vibe is less formal. The key to any great outfit is striking the right balance. If you’re going to wear a simple or less expensive dress, opt for a luxe bag, a standout accessory (i.e statement necklace or earrings), or a killer pair of shoes. I spend most of my clothing budget on “accessory type” items because you know you’ll use and wear them again and again.
A few weeks ago, in anticipation of all of the upcoming events, I bought a peach tiered eyelet lace halter dress with low back from Forever21 for $48.00 (no, your eyes are not fooling you). This super feminine dress is perfect for a daytime or outdoor wedding, a bridal shower luncheon or a fancy Sunday brunch. To play up the summer vibes and to inject a little luxury, I wore my go-to bag of the summer, the white Pinko Love bag (definitely on repeat this season) and my favorite pair of oversized cat-eye Tom Ford sunglasses. To keep the look cocktail-appropriate, I wore a pair of nude woven point toe heels (for a more casual look, try this dress with a pair of platform sandals or block heeled mules). Finally, to play up the gold details of my bag and to keep the look modern (I didn’t want to appear too cutesy), I wore a pair of gold O-Ring drop earrings and a gold studded Nandel bracelet.
