Whenever Memorial Day plans are being made, I immediately think “white pants” season. So, in preparation for the official kick-off of Summer, I put together a sophisticated summer look for your chicest post-work rooftop soirees and weekend brunches. I’ll be wearing this look to an upcoming De Beers event celebrating the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over champagne and diamonds.
I’m always running from work to event or vice-versa, so coming up with looks that can easily transition from one context to another is critically important to balancing an already hectic schedule. Let’s be clear, when I say transitional, I don’t mean wearing a full look in both arenas, but creating variation through accessories or a quick change of one or two items while maintaining the basic parts of an outfit. For this look, I paired a navy double-breasted slightly oversized blazer with contrasting buttons (very work appropriate) with white exaggerated bell-bottom trousers (although the pants are admittedly daring for the office, the blazer/trouser combo keeps the overall look tailored and business-appropriate). On top, I swapped out a white oxford for a cream silk camisole (one of my favorite basics). For accessories, I wore white organic shaped statement earrings (in place of pearl studs), vintage cat eye sunglasses and a metallic handle bag (perfect for work or out). Finally, I left the pumps in the office and opted for silver metallic stiletto ankle boots.
