For weekend errands that included meeting up with friends (all the way downtown) to a little retail therapy (all the way uptown), I wanted a stylish, but relaxed look that could take me from the bank to bloomies, effortlessly. Two unexpected, but very welcome trends as of late are the “sneaker” (check out my previous post on how to wear “Vans” styled slip-ons here) and “athletic style” (you know, those sports bra/sweatpant sets) trends.
SNEAKERS ARE EVERYWHERE and thankfully, we no longer have to limit them to the gym, dowdy errand days or intense sightseeing. Here’s how I wore the super popular, classic white Adidas Superstar Shoes (and happily gave my feeties a rest from heels).
With hints of Spring in the air, I couldn’t wait to lose the tights and bare leg it with a grey mock neck knit mini dress from Zara. But with temps still in the mid-60’s, I brought out a Spring/Fall wardrobe staple, my Burberry trench coat. To keep the look tailored and hands free for shopping ease, I wore a nude quilted crossbody bag with gold buckle detail. For accessories, I wore an all gold watch, studded gold and leather cuff, oversized pearl stud earrings and blue mirrored tortoise sunglasses.
Style Tip: The sneaker and dress pair-up can look a little “suburban commuter mom” if done incorrectly. So, pair sneakers with solid form fitting silhouettes and abandon any thought of pairing sneakers with printed, paisley or flouncy dresses. This is not the time to combine the bohemian and sneaker trends.
