It’s officially Daylight Savings Time – which for me signifies beloved SPRING! And, oh how I’ve missed longer days, sunlight and warmth.
It won’t be official until the 20th, but there’s no point in wasting any time preparing your Spring wardrobe (after all, it’s also SALE season at almost all of my favorite purveyors) and I’m super excited about kicking off the season with a look that I put together for a special NYFW event hosted by Fashion Hong Kong at The High Line Hotel, and one you could wear for your next cocktail party, night out or special event.
Now, a little about The High Line Hotel. If you haven’t been, it’s totally worth the visit if for nothing more than to admire the gorgeous turn-of-the-century gothic architecture (so rare in NYC) while having a cocktail. And, come Spring/Summer, their outside garden restaurant and bar that twinkles under string lights is the perfect place for a pre or post-dinner drink, date spot or friend gathering – it’s just so perfectly New York City.
So, for the event, which would be highly covered, I wanted to make a statement and knew the perfect dress for the occasion – a fully sequined silver A-line mini dress with long sleeves and bejeweled neckline from Pinko. For me, balance is key – if the dress is mini, there must be adequate coverage up top – after all, I graduated (however begrudgingly) from overly exposed pieces (i.e. sequined tube dresses and the like) a long time ago. And, the all over sequins keep this otherwise conservative silhouette fun and evening appropriate. To accentuate the mini hemline, I wore my tallest pair of Jimmy Choo champagne Lance sandals. For me, wearing minis can be a struggle because of my petite stature and athletic legs, so choosing the right pair of heels is super important for creating length and height – being sure to steer clear of designs that cut off the leg (i.e. ankle straps or ties) and opting for neutral tones (i.e. nude, champagne, metallic). To emphasize the change in season, I opted for a bright pink wool long coat. This coat is so classic and the pink does such wonderful things for any skin tone. Finally, to play up the sequins, I wore crystal tassel earrings that I happily recycled from NYE (Trend Alert: Super shimmery, over the top earrings (whether embellished or oversized) are all the rage right now and were all over the Spring/Summer runways). Finally, to finish the look, I carried a champagne leather flap bag.
