The holidays are winding down and so are the festive looks, but there’s no better way to wrap up the season than to share my favorite holiday look that will be cute well after the ball drops.
For a recent holiday dinner with colleagues turned friends, I put together my favorite (subtle) holiday look of the season. After nights of wearing shades of red, velvet and/or sparkle-something (I swear we had holiday parties almost every single evening from December 1st onward and yes, I’m suffering from holiday party fatigue), I was ready to put together a look that was festive, but a bit more subtle (after all, no one ever said we have to look like walking Christmas to be festive).
To create this look, I paired a sheer mesh green plaid turtleneck over a black cami with a pair of high-waisted tapered and pleated black trousers. To define the waistline and to add a little sparkle, I wore a thick black velvet belt with large round rhinestone buckle. To play up the green tones (which has clearly become my favorite fall/winter color), I wore my new forest green structured double-breasted wool blend full-length coat and metallic green stiletto pumps. For accessories, I opted for pearl and crystal cluster statement earrings (these earrings are magnificent and on super sale right now at Mango), gold Meijuri ear cuff (so excited their showroom is finally open in NYC and love adding a little edge to my look) and Gucci mini dionysus wallet chain (that has the perfect gold and velvet details). Although the overall look was a bit more subtle than some of my others this season, I incorporated a number of holiday style elements like sparkle, velvet and plaid to ensure holiday dinner appropriateness.
