Last weekend, Sis and I were heading out for brunch at La Sirena (the gorgeous new Batali/Bastianich restaurant in the Maritime Hotel). Although the restaurant serves (the most delish) Italian fare, something about the open-air patio, bistro chairs and decor conjures up visions of Paris, so I just had to wear something a little parisian inspired for our Sunday Funday outing.
When I think of classic parisian style, I always think – stripes, silk scarves/neck-ties and bold red lips. To create my look, I incorporated all the classic elements, but gave it a little modern twist. For stripes, I wore my favorite navy and white knit fitted midi dress (that I’ve had for years and is surprisingly versatile – wear it with a cute pair of sandals and it’s nautical, wear it with a blazer and it’s work-attire, etc. etc. etc.). Instead of a silk scarf/necktie, I wore a super on trend leather wrap choker (that I made with leather cord I purchased at a local fabric and trim store – to make your own, purchase 3 yards of leather cord, wrap around your neck 2 to 3 times and tie a simple knot or make a bow). For lips, I wore a bright berry lipstick rather than a classic red. To finish the look, I threw on my go to leather biker jacket (to compliment the choker and because it’s still so chilly in NYC), adidas originals superstar sneakers (to keep the outfit casual and comfy), classic black sunnies, and blue prada saffiano leather camera bag (for a punch of color).
