Napa Valley … charming, serene, luxurious, idyllic … the kind of place that dreams and movies are made of.
For our day trip to Napa (stayed tuned for my travel post on planning your next trip to Napa Valley), I knew I had to wear something as special as the place and that I had to turn up the drama. After all, we had reservations at a few of the most beautiful and exclusive wineries in the region. It’s hard to believe that our little California wine country sojourn from SF was already three weeks ago, but the day was perfect (right in the middle of harvest season) and so was the weather (a welcome change from the city’s fog and gloom).
Napa is the kind of place that you can do up or down, but as is my usual m.o., I decided to get a little fance. I knew we’d be spending a fair amount of time in the car (for our drive to and from SF and from winery to winery), so I wanted to wear something comfy, but without compromising style. With highs in the mid-70’s, I had to layer, but could still get away with a dark floral wrap front maxi dress, bare legs and a pair of double strap block heel sandals. For the early morning hours (wineries open around 10:00AM) and after the sunset, I threw on a classic denim jacket for an extra layer of warmth and to make the overall look slightly more casual (maxis can be tricky – with the wrong pairings, you’ll end up looking far more evening ready than you envisioned). To complete the look, I wore my new favorite floppy wool hat in midnight (perfect for fall and winter) and my slouchy black leather bucket bag.
Happy Wining and Happy Travels!
