A few weekends ago, cousin SX (now SM) celebrated her recent nuptials to MH at a beautiful traditional Chinese Wedding banquet dinner and I was torn about what to wear. Typically, female guests, especially those closest to the bride and groom, wear cheongsam or qipao to such formal affairs, but I decided to go for something a little more modern, but still influenced by traditional dress.
To create a “fusion” look, I opted for a hunter green A-line midi dress with cold shoulder ruffle detail. Although the dress was not satin (the customary fabric), the delicate floral print was certainly one you would find on a qipao and, I especially loved the crew neck silhouette, which was reminiscent of the traditional mandarin collar. For accessories, I had to go gold with a large gold dome earring and wide gold cuff bracelet. Finally, to complete the look, I wore a Chanel classic flap bag and black single strap heels and a deep berry lip to bring it all together.
