Welcome to our new living room! I’ve been teasing parts of this space on Instagram over the last few weeks, but am so excited to finally share all of the details with you in this dedicated post (especially since so many of you have been asking about where to purchase various items).

This space was always beautiful, but super feminine with mirrored accent furniture and ivory tufted leather couches.  And over time, the once bright peach toned walls turned a dull tan and were screaming for a fresh coat of paint.  Since the living room was the main focus of our apartment revamp, it’s here that we focused most of our time and budget, and I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together.

First we tackled paint colors. After a ton of internal debate and hours of inspo-research, I decided to go with white walls.  I know the choice seems simple, but I promise that painting a room white is a nuanced decision.  I considered and reconsidered endless shades before landing on Benjamin Moore’s Simply White.   Simply White is a soft white that’s not too creamy and without any apparent yellow undertones. It’s the perfect canvas for just about any color or style without being too bright, too cool or too toned (Fun Fact: It was Benjamin Moore’s 2016 Color of the Year).  For trims, windows and doors, as with the rest of the apartment, we applied a fresh coat of semi-gloss white.

Then, it was onto the furniture and furnishings.  One thing that we knew we wanted was a comfy inviting sofa and opted for a medium greige/taupe sectional with midcentury modern wood frame and legs.  Amazingly, the sectional opened up our space and filled a corner that was previously underutilized and it’s sleek silhouette kept the overall look clean and modern.  To continue with the midcentury modern style,  we turned to West Elm and fell in love with a black lacquer and wood media console, brass and carrera marble pedestal coffee table and carrera marble and brass ring side table.  To our great fortune, we inherited the perfect dramatic overarching silver floor lamp (the previous owner of Sis’ apartment left it behind and it didn’t quite work with her décor #score).  To bring all the pieces and tones together, we opted for a vintage gray and white oriental rug.  To soften the look of the sofa and to introduce some more feminine elements, I added pillows with varying tones and textures – gray and white crosshatch, stone crinkled velvet and white mohair, and a charcoal and white knit throw I bought months ago from Pottery Barn before we ever decided to redecorate.  To dress up the coffee table (likely my favorite piece of furniture in the whole room), I placed the most gorgeous silver bowl and silver candle (both steals from Home Goods) next to a white vase of full white garden roses. For finishing touches, I purchased my long admired fiddle leaf fig tree along with a few other new green leafed friends,  adorned a vintage gold and silver chest (that Bugsy bought me when I first moved into this apartment years ago) with picture frames featuring my favorite moments and people, and kept our old abstract artwork that added just the right amount of color and warmth to the room.

Now, for my cozy, but luxe wintry look.  For a day at home followed by a midweek dinner out at someplace fancy, I wanted to wear something comfy, but still glamorous.  Winter sweaters do not have to be casual or boring.  To create this look, I paired my favorite oversized light grey turtleneck sweater  with a pair of champagne satin trousers with darts.  To increase the glam factor, I wore long rhinestone and pearl earrings and nude Valentino T-Strap Rockstud heels.
