With a closet full of beautiful clothing, it’s hard to pick favorites. But the ones I love and wear most are undoubtedly the ones that offer versatility.
During these warm summer months and as my body continues to evolve, I’ve been loving oversized button down shirts that are light, breezy and versatile. From classic white to patterned and striped, I’ve been finding that button-down shirts are super maternity friendly – whether worn with a pair of leggings, trousers that still fit, a stretchy bodycon dress or over a bathing suit as a wrap.
So, when WhoWhatWear reached out to me about their new collection, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their black and white striped long sleeve double pocket button-down shirt. Made from a gauzy, lightweight fabric, I knew it would be perfect for the summer and wearable in and out of the office.
To create two different looks, I styled the top two different ways, (1) untucked for a more office-friendly, conservative look, and (2) tied up for a fun weekend/evening look, with my favorite pair of ivory wide-leg cullottes (that I bought from Zara at least 4 years ago). I’ve worn these trousers literally a million times (see here, here, here and here), but thankfully due to its slightly large/forgiving waistline, this 5-month belly is still fitting comfortably in them. To add a little summer flare, I layered seashell choker necklaces (seashell jewelry is still trending). Finally, I completed the look with burgundy YSL cross-over mules, YSL black cat-eye sunglasses and a vintage Louis Vuitton mini papillon bag (that I found buried in my closet during my recent summer closet purge).
Look One
Wear a classic button down untucked with a pair of trouser for a breezy, but tailored look. Love pairing classic black and white striping with something a bit unconventional – seashell jewelry. Gauzy, lightweight button-down tops are perfect for summer. When in doubt, always opt for the classic black cat-eye sunglasses. Love mixing brown and black tones to create visual interest. Burgundy mules and vintage LV bag are a great way to break up the black and white. Amazing how the right fit can camouflage a growing baby bump.
Look Two
Styling trick – for a whole new look, tie your button down blouse at the smallest part of your waist. If you’re nervous about baring too much skin, tied-up button downs also look great over a tank/cami. Long sleeves and oversized silhouette offers balance to a bare midriff. Love a striped top with bright white trousers. Processed with VSCO with g7 preset
